Koeppen, Otto Martin (11 Nov. 1882 – 13 Apr. 1951)

Otto Martin Koeppen passed away Friday, April 13, after a lingering illness of two years. Funeral services were held Monday at Zion Lutheran church, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were George Schultz, Louis Frome, Fred Zassenhaus, Sr., Albert Hertz, Fred Schumann and Nick Schaffer.

Mr. Koeppen was born in Germany on Nov. 11, 1882, thus reaching the age of 68 years, seven months and two days. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of seven years and settled on a farm in the town of Colby. His marriage to Frieda Werner took place at Colby on November 27, 1918. They retired six years ago and moved to the city of Colby.

Surviving are his wife and the following children: Kenneth Koeppen and the Misses Wynola and June Koeppen, at home, Mrs. Wesley (Violet) Frome and Mrs. Frederick (Leona) Zassenhaus of Colby and LaVern Koeppen of Sheboygan. Also two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Witte and Mrs. Bertha Kobs of Colby and eight grand children.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William Gerlach and son, Ervin, and Mrs. Arno Burkhardt of Sheboygan Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Reinholdt Werner, Mrs. Frieda Boltz, Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Koeppen and family, all of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Winkle, Mrs. Ervin Wehrmann, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Boeldt, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Boeldt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schorer, all of Howard’s Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Werner and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Werner of Wells, Minn., Ray Werner of Walters, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. August Lube and Mr. and Mrs. Arno Eckardt of Marshfield, Mrs. Jacob Werner of Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Verlen Schorer of Redfield and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Frome of Auburndale.

Mr. Koeppen was well and favorably known in Colby as a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church, of a congenial and hospitable disposition who always endeavored to perform his duties to the best of his ability.
