Loos, Emil David (17 Apr. 1873 – 19 Sept. 1951)

Emil D. Loos passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Memorial Hospital in Wausau where he was taken last week after he broke his hip after he fell from a ladder. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon when funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at 2:00 P.M. The funeral will be a Masonic funeral.

Last rites for Emil David Loos, who passed away at the Memorial Hospital, Wausau, at the age of 78 years, five months and two days, Wednesday, Sept. 19, were held at the Colby Methodist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. F. J. Smith officiating at the church services and L. W. Cattanach of Owen officiated for the Masons who attended in a body. Pall bearers were C. A. Nelsen, George Carr, Oscar Carlson, H. C. Klessig, Frank Goeltz and William Jensen, the latter of Spencer. Flowers were in charge of Margaret Bane, Marlene Dallmann, Ann Steinwand, Sandra Steinwand, Barbara Bender, Florence Youmans, Donna Witte, Roberta Strathman, Emily Loos and Wanda Weix.

Mr. Loos was born in Sheboygan county on April 17, 1873. His marriage to Bertha Matthies took place in Potter, Wis., on June 20, 1897, to which union eight children were born. They came to Colby in 1902 and resided here since that time. Mr. Loos conducted a machine shop here, and, because of his skill as a machinist, he attracted business to Colby from many surrounding cities. Twelve years ago, Mr. Loos retired and his business was taken over by his sons. Ten days previous to his death, Mr. Loos fell from a step ladder and broke his hip. He was rushed to the Memorial Hospital at Wausau where complications set in but the untiring skill and watchful care of the conscientious, painstaking physicians were of no avail. The great destroyer had placed his signet on his brow and today his many friends who loved him living, mourn him dead.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Sherman, Vernon and Clinton of Colby; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Norma) Reyer of Park Falls and Mrs. Earle (Lorene) Starkey of Fargo, N. Dakota; 12 grand children and two great grand children.

Mr. Loos will be remembered by his friends as a man who endeavored always to perform every duty – to his God, his country, his family, his neighbor and himself. He filled the various relations of life and filled them well.
