DORCHESTER -- The Rev. Arthur W. Heindl, 93, of Abbotsford, a priest of the Diocese of Madison, passed away March 6, 2008, at the Inn Care Center of Abbotsford under the tender care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. The Rev. Benjamin Frankin, pastor, will officiate with the Rev. Lyle Schulte as the homilist.

Entombment will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Catholic Cemetery of La Crosse.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, and again from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, both at the church. A Parish Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Maurina/Schilling Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Arthur was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Dorchester to Nic and Elizabeth (Leonhard) Heindl. Arthur attended Pickert school in the town of Holton for four years. He then attended St. Louis Parochial School in Dorchester until the eighth grade. At age 13, Arthur went to study for the priesthood at St. Nazianz, located in southern Wisconsin for six years. He continued his studies in philosophy and theology at St. John, Collegeville, Minn., for an additional six years. On May 18, 1940, Father Arthur W. Heindl was ordained a priest in La Crosse by Bishop Griffin. Father Heindl's first Solemn Mass was held on May 23, 1940, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Father Art's first parish assignment was an assistant pastor position at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield. Later he was stationed in churches located in Bloomer, Seymour, Fennimore and Lime Ridge. After serving as a priest with the Roman Catholic Church and its many parishioners, Father Heindl retired to the Mondeaux Flowage near Westboro. Father Art continued to assist many of the area Catholic priests even after his retirement. In his spare time Father Art enjoyed hunting and fishing, he loved outdoor cooking and doing leather work, polishing stones and collecting various stamps and coins.

Father Art is lovingly survived by his siblings, James (Janice Fischer) Heindl of Abbotsford, Helen Riegert of Colby, and Urban Heindl of Abbotsford. A sister-in-law, Alice (Riegert) Heindl of Medford; 12 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and nephews; and many other parishioners and friends further survive Father Art.

Father Art was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Bernard, Eugene, and Father Francis, who was a priest of the Diocese of La Crosse.
