Surnames: Peet, Briggs, Biddle, Flora Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 08/12/1943 Peet, Gwyneth E. (8 AUG 1943) At ten a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8th, 1943, a very pretty wedding occurred at the Bethel Lutheran Church in La Crosse, when Miss Gwyneth Elaine Peet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Peet of Stanley, and Pfc. Richard Merty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Briggs of La Crosse, were united in marriage. Rev. O.S. Paulson performed the ceremony. Preceding the ceremony Miss Colleen Biddle, cousin of the bride, sang “Oh Promise Me” and “Because” with Mrs. Frank Muth at the organ. As the bridal party marched in Mrs. Muth played Lohengrin’s “Wedding March.” The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white silk marquisette, with lace insertion and fingertip veil with a sea pearl crown and wore a double strand of pearls around her neck. She carried an arm bouquet of pink roses and pompoms. She was attended by her sister Sylverne Peet, who wore a baby blue silk marquisette gown with pink and blue bows and matching blusher veil and carried a bouquet of gladiolas. The groom was attended by Pfc. Gordon K. Flora an uncle of the bride, both men were in uniform. The bride’s mother wore a light blue silk crepe with navy accessories and the groom’s mother wore a light blue silk crepe with white accessories. They both wore corsages. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church basement for about fifty relatives and friends. The church dining room was decorated in white and pastel pink and blue with white wedding bells. A dance was given in the evening at the American Legion Hall in Thorp. The bride is a graduate of the Stanley High School with the class of ’41, and since then has been employed in Milwaukee. The groom is a graduate of the Logan High School in La Crosse. The bride and groom will make their home in Altua, Okla., where the groom is stationed. |
