Hubing, Lila D. (9 March 1907 – 19 March 2008)

Lila D. Hubing, 101, of Neillsville died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Lila was born March 9, 1907, in the Town of York, the daughter of Truman and Effie (Breese) Davis. She received her education in the Granton schools and attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield. She was employed by the Memorial Nursing Home for 24 years before retiring in 1981.

On March 9, 1925, she was married to Charles M. Hubing. They farmed in the Town of Grant for 22 years. After selling their farm, they moved to 29 Hewett Street where she lived until moving to the Angelus Retirement Community in 2003.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Miriam Circle. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as president.

She is survived by daughters, Charlotte (Robert) Jacob of port Edwards and Luann (William) Hoffman of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Charlene Dascher, Sparta, Steven (Lucy) Hoffman, Traverse City, MI, Craig (Kelly) Hoffman, Rockford, MI, and Curtis (Katie) Hoffman, Grand Rapids, MI; two great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1971; sister, Lucile Hubing and brother, Eldred Davis.

Funeral Services for Lila were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Dong Su Lee of the United Methodist Church officiated. Music was provided by Charlotte Drescher, organist, and Jerry Opelt, soloist. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home.

Casket bearers were Calvin Gerhardt, Gene Jepsen, Don Lipsey, Bob Marty, Ed Tresemer and Wayne Voss.
