Lawrence (27 Sept. 1876 – 7 Mar. 1952) Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Church for Mr. J. L. Driscoll, 75, who died at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He was taken there Thursday after suffering a stroke a few weeks ago. The Rev. Robert Trobaugh officiated at the services and burial was made in the West Spencer cemetery. The body reposed at the Swarthout Funeral Home until 12:30 p.m. Monday, when it was taken to the church to repose until the time of services. Jane Andrews and Sue Graves sang “The Lord’s Prayer” during the services accompanied by Mrs. K. D. Graves on the organ. Pallbearers were S. E. Graves, John Orgish, Glen Shupe, Ray Parrette, Frank Korth, and John Holzschuh. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. B. A. Baldwin, Mrs. Ora Schaefer, Mrs. H. R. Graves, Mrs. Harry Prehn, Mrs. Art Phillips, Mrs. Glen Shupe, and Mrs. F. V. McIhattan. Relatives and friends from away here for the funeral included Walker Hayward, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wyman, Wausau; Mrs. Anna Clark, Mrs. Charles Thomas, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Corbett, Bancroft, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lavers, Tomahawk; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hayward, L. E. Henry, Joe Elmhorst, and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Follett, all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schutte, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Schuette and Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crossgrove, Colby. Mr. Driscoll was born September 27, 1876 in the village of Spencer; he was the first rural mail carrier on route 1, when that service was established here. In 1934 he moved to Spencer where he was appointed as postmaster, a position he held for 11 years. His marriage to the former Mae Andrews took place here June 29, 1899. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Floyd and Dale, of Spencer, and two grandchildren. Two infant sons preceded him in death.
