Widmer, Arlene Bernice (Marriage – 4 Sept. 1954)

Relatives and friends congregated in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Riplinger, Saturday afternoon, September 4 at 1:30 o’clock to attend the wedding of Miss Arlene Bernice Widmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Widmer, Spencer, and William Marten, Jr., son of Mrs. Arthur Steele, Abbotsford. The Rev. Paul Mall officiated.

Mrs. Eugene Marten, Spencer, sister-in-law of the groom, was matron of honor attired in a strapless orchid gown of daisy-trimmed net over taffeta with matching jacket.

Mrs. Wilbur Witte, Riplinger, and Miss Betty Cammers, Genoa City, a cousin of the bride, as bridesmaids, were dressed like the matron of honor in mint green and coral, respectively. All three carried colonial bouquets of white carnations tinted to match their frocks.

Eugene Marten, of Spencer, was his brother’s best man. Groomsmen were Wilbur Witte, Riplinger, and Richard Kops, Unity, Donald Winters, Beaver Dam, and Dennis Seefeld, Spencer, ushered.

Judy Widmer, the little sister of the bride, and Diane Bunkelman, Chippewa Falls, a niece of the groom, were flower girls and Jerry Marten, a nephew of the groom, was the ring-bearer.

White net over satin was utilized to fashion the bridal gown which was four-tiered and floor length and designed with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves. Pearls and sequins decorated the crown from which the finger-tip veil fell. The bride carried red roses and white pompoms.

White accessories were used with the blue lace over taffeta dress worn by Mrs. Widmer for her daughter’s wedding. The mother of the groom appeared in dusty pink lace over taffeta, with white accessories.

The wedding supper was served in the church basement.

After a honeymoon in southern Wisconsin the Martens will reside in Riplinger, where he is employed in a cheese factory.

Wedding guests came from Genoa City, Beaver Dam, Fox Lake, Waupun, Birnamwood, Minneapolis, Chippewa Falls, Milwaukee, Dodgeville, Lake Geneva, Cleveland, Chicago, Neillsville, Washburn, Greenwood, Medford, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, Curtiss, Riplinger, Loyal, Owen, and Plymouth.
