Dommer, Ida (21 Sept. 1886 – 30 Nov. 1954)

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church for Mrs. Fred Dommer, 68, who passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 30 at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield shortly after she had been admitted. She suffered a stroke at her home earlier that day.

The body reposed at the Swarthout Funeral Home until 1:00 p.m. Saturday when it was taken to the church. Rev. Randolph Mueller officiated at the services and burial was made in the West Spencer cemetery.

Mrs. Arnold Bruesewitz rendered organ selections and accompanied the choir which sang “Abide With Me” and the congregation in singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”

Pallbearers were Henry Kuesel, Arthur Kuester, Roy Hardrath, Rueben Rex, Walter Hardrath and Alfred Kuester.

Mrs. Herman Schefus, Mrs, Rueben Rex, Mrs. W. Hardrath, Mrs. Henry Kuesel, Mrs. Arthur Kuester and Mrs. Roy Hardrath carried flowers.

Almost 300 relatives and friends called at the Swarthout Funeral Home to pay their respects to the departed.

Mrs. Dommer, the former Ida Kuester, was born September 21, 1886, in Saxony, Germany. At the age of six years, she came with her parents to this country and settled in Fairfax, Minnesota. In 1910 she was married to Fred Halford, from whom she was later divorced. Later, in October, 1919, Mrs. Dommer and her four children came to Riplinger.

Her second marriage took place to Fred Dommer on September 23, 1921, at Riplinger. The couple moved to the Village of Spencer in 1948 where they have since lived.

Surviving are her husband, and nine children. Children by her first marriage are Russell Halford, Minneapolis; Ira Henry Halford, San Louis Obispo, Calif.; Mrs. Clifford (Grace) Wright, Miles City, Mont.; and Mrs. Jack (Marie) Dearden, Saginaw, Mich. Children of her second marriage are Harold and Milton Dommer, Spencer; Mrs. Leroy (Norma) Fauset, San Louis Obispo, Cal.; Mrs. Harold (Irene) Strathman, Colby; and Orville Dommer, U.S. Navy, Washington, D.C.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hardrath, Riplinger and Mrs. Herman (Hattie) Dankemeyer, Danbury; 5 brothers, Edwin Kuester, Riplinger; Herman Kuester, Fairfax, Minn.; Otto and Fred Kuester, Hutchinson, Minn.; and Gustave Kuester, Pewaukee, and 12 grandchildren.

Two brothers preceded her in death.
