DEATH CAUSES SORROW IN SIX HOMES

As unexpected as a thunderbolt from a clear sky came the sad news to this city last Thursday of the death of Hallie O. Brooks, which occured at his home in the town of Fremont at an early hour that morning. Felling in unusually fine spirits the night previous Mr. Brooks had risen in his usual good health and accompanied by his chore boy had gone to the barn to feed his stock when he was stricken with heart failure. His wife was summoned at once but when she reached his side life was already extinct, although in her grief and frenzy she could not believe it, and whispering words of endearment and a prayer that he still lived, held him in her arms until friendly neighbors came and led her back to the house where relatives and friends soon arrived to give comfort to her and her three little daughters in their hour of bereavement.

Deceased was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Brooks, also of the town of Fremont, and was born in Lynn on March 17th, 1873, being 36 years old at the time of his death. On December 23rd, 1896, he was married to Miss Emma Trudeau, eldest daughter of Mrs. Louise Trudeau of the town of Lincoln, and shortly after moved onto the farm he had purchased the year previous and upon which he has since lived, surrounded by a loving wife and children. He was a kind and generous father and husband, a quiet and friendly neighbor and held the respect and esteem of the entire community.

Services were held at the home Sunday afternoon a 2 o'clock, Rev. Martin of Nasonville officiating, internment was made in the Youle (Yolo KJW) cemetery near Chili and the long cortege which accompanied the remains to their last resting place was a fitting tribute to the honor and regards in which the deceased was held. Besides a broken hearted wife and three daughters, the eldest of which is eleven, deceased is survived by a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Brooks of Fremont, and two brothers and one sister, Alfred of Fremont, Herbert of Laclede, Idaho and Miss Rose Brooks of Rosebud, N. D., to whom the sympathy of the entire community goes out in their hour of grief.
