Obit: Hoops, Raymond J. (1909 – 1960)
Surnames: Hoops, Anderson, Olson, Solberg, Huber, Wry Source: Marshfield News Herald (Marshfield, Wood County, Wis.) Wednesday, 20 Apr. 1960 Hoops, Raymond J. (25 May 1909 – 19 Apr. 1960) Raymond J. Hoops, 50, a former resident of Marshfield and Spencer, died unexpectedly of a heart attack last evening while attending a church meeting in Madison. His home there is located at 4214 Bagley Parkway. Mr. Hoops was born at Spencer May 25, 1909, and attended grade and high school there before attending colleges at Stevens Point, Whitewater and Northwestern. He taught high school at Wausau and Marshfield, leaving here when McKinley High School was destroyed by fire Oct. 14, 1936. Since 1946 he had been in Madison, where he served as comptroller for the State Medical Society. His first wife, the former Helen Anderson, died Sept. 25, 1955. In 1958 he married Mrs. Emma Olson at Madison. She survives with five children, Mrs. Carl (Beverly) Solberg, Decorah, Iowa, and Ray, John, Nancy and Richard, all at home, and a stepdaughter, Roberta Olson, also at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoops, a resident of the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Huber and Mrs. John Wry, both of Spencer, and two brothers, Arthur Hoops, Green Bay, and Wilbur Hoops, Spencer. His father died in 1935. Funeral services for Mr. Hoops, a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison, will be held Friday, the body to lie in state at the Larson Funeral Home there until the time of funeral service. *** Note: His father, August Hoops, is buried in West Spencer Cemetery, Clark County, Wisconsin.
