SPENCER – Gerhard Klein, 91, of Spencer entered eternal life Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Miller Alternative Care Center, Marshfield.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hansen Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebecca Jorstad will officiate. Internment of ashes will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Friends may call one-half hour prior to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1913, in the town of Brighton, a son of Edward and Leona (Manthe) Klein. He attended local schools. On May 31, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer, Gerhard was united in marriage to Isabelle Stelzl. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2003.

The couple farmed in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, from 1940 until the present. Mr. Klein was always proud of his farming heritage and loved farming the land he cleared with a horse and plow.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a former director of Spencer State Bank and Clark Electric Cooperative.

He is lovingly survived by a daughter, Sharon (Paul) Engstrom, Eau Claire, and one son, Gary Klein, Spencer. One brother, Walter Klein, Spencer, and one sister, Gladys Geiger, California, further survive Gerhard.

His parents, two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Klein’s name may be designated to Hospice Home Care.

The family wishes to thank Miller Alternative Care Center and Ministry Home Hospice for the tender loving care and attention Gerhard received.
