Surnames: Birkett, Haas, Knapton, Williams Godfrey Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 11/16/1944 Birkett, Katherine #2 (21 DEC 1890 – 5 NOV 1944) Services for Mrs. Wilmer Birkett were held Friday, Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, Nov. 5, 1944 at 9:30 p.m. of a stroke. She had reached the age of 53 years, 10 months and 15 days. Before her marriage on Dec. 29, 1914 to Wilmer Birkett of Cobb, Wis., she was Katherine Alena Haas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Haas of Edmund, Wis. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Wilma Knapton of Madison; Pvt. Willis Birkett of U.S. Army; Esther, who preceded her in death six years ago; Blanche of Washington, D.C.; Wayne and Donald at home. In 1919 they moved to Clark Co., where they made their home on a farm southeast of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) for twenty-two years before moving to a farm four miles from Abbotsford, where they lived one years before moving to their present home west of Colby. Those who mourn her death besides her husband and five children are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Haas of Mineral Point, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. A.B. Williams of Madison, Mrs. Ted Godfrey, Mineral Point, Wis., Miss Rebecca Haas of Mineral Point, and one brother, Fred J. Haas of Dodgeville; three granddaughters, Beatrice, Clara, and Hazel Knapton, also other relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Pierce Owens, Orville Radley, Herman Luraas, Charles Flick, Carl Laube and Ernest Schulz. Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Wilma Knapton, Madison, Pvt Willis Birkett, Fort Benning, Ga., Miss Blanche Birkett, Washington, D.C., Mr. and Mrs. George Haas, Mrs. Ted Godfrey, Mineral Point, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haas of Dodgeville, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Williams of Madison, Mrs. Jerome Donahue, Bellville, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams of Madison, Mr. Will Haas and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Haas, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haas, Mrs. Louisa Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luraas, and Mrs. Tobias Thorson, Withee, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Radley of Greenwood, Mr. Lyle Haas, Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Telford, Thorp. ***Note: In a previous obituary Mrs. Birkett, first name is spelled with a "C" not a "K". In this write up it was spelled with a "K". |
