Acheson, Rebecca (6 Jan. 1873 – 16 Mar. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Acheson, 71, a resident of the town of Weston, were conducted on Monday afternoon, March 20, at the Congregational Church, Neillsville, preceded by brief services at the home. Rev. G. W. Longenecker was the officiating pastor. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Acheson died Thursday, March 16, of a heart ailment.

Rebecca McElroy was born January 6, 1873, at Hortonville, Wis., the daughter of John and Katherine (Reid) McElroy. She received her early education at Hortonville, and later attended Lawrence College. She was a public school teacher 12 ½ years, teaching in the rural school of her home county, and in the high school at New London, Wis.

In March, 1904, she was married to John C. Acheson at Hortonville. They resided at Dale, and in 1909 moved to Chippewa Falls, where they resided until 1919, when they came to Clark County, purchasing a farm, in the town of Weston, where she has since resided. Since the death of her husband in August, 1928, Mr. Acheson, with the help of her sons, has carried on the work of the home farm. She was a member of the Congregational Church, and as long as her health permitted, was an active worker in the church. She was a woman of rare executive ability and an untiring worker.

Mrs. Acheson is survived by two sons, Russell and Donald, who are at home, and by two daughters, Hazel, Mrs. Hilbert Naedler, town of Pine Valley; and Neta, Mrs. George Haack, town of Weston. Also surviving are five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Julius Nordman, Duluth, and Miss Myra McElroy, Hortonville, and a brother, George McElroy, also of Hortonville. Her parents are deceased, and one daughter died in infancy.

Pallbearers were C. C. Kroll, Arthur Imig, David Thayer, George Prochazka, Louis Kurth and Fred Stelloh.
