Obit: Maier, John Sr. (1860 – 1946)
Surnames: Maier, Gregoire Michael ---------Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 08/29/1946 --------- Maier, John Sr. (10 MAY 1860 – 22 AUG 1946) John Maier Sr., respected farmer of the Town of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at his home there of old age infirmities on Thursday, Aug. 22, 1946. He had reached the age of 86 years, 3 months and 12 days. Mr. Maier was born in Germany on May 10, 1860. He came to America in 1883 and spent five years in Calumet county before moving to Thorp and settling on the farm which had been his home for over fifty-eight years. Here he and his wife raised a family of seven children. Mrs. Maier and one daughter, Mary, preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, George and John of Thorp; four daughters, Sister Mary Leonissa of Longmont, Colo., Sister Mary Regis of Jefferson, Wis., Mrs. Raymond Gregoire of Hilbert, Wis., and Mrs. Roy Michael of Denver, Colo., eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church here at nine o’clock Monday morning, Aug. 26th, Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating, and interment following in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Benzschawel, Joe Haas, Joe Gengler, Anton Baldeschwiler, Gilbert Voelker and Louie Henke. Relatives and friends form out of town who were here to attend the funeral were: Sr. Mary Leonissa, Sr. Mary Regis, Sr. Mary Sebalda and Sr. Christiana and Mrs. Rembs, of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gregoire, Ruth, Marion and Kenneth, of Hilbert, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Maier and daughter Carol of Chicago, Pvt. Norman Maier, San Antonio, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sonnentag and son Roger, Chris Nauertz, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Kolbe, of Milwaukee; Jerome Gebhard, Sheboygan Falls; Mrs. Delbert Woelfel, John Gebhard, Hayton; Mr. and Mrs. John Nicoly and Valeria, Mrs. Wm. Oldenburg, New Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gebhard, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gebhard, Manitowoc. |
