Surnames: Grottke, Baumann, Scharf, Durni, Gloff, Foemmel, Kalsow, Bartell, Duge, Hemp, Holtz ----Source: Clark County Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 01/11/1945 ----Grottke, Ernest (8 Jan. 1872 – 5 Jan. 1945) Funeral services for Ernest Grottke, 73, town of Grant farmer, were conducted Monday afternoon, January 8, at 1:30 at the Jaster funeral home, and at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran church. The Rev. William A. Baumann conducted the services. Burial was made in the Neillsville cemetery. Mr. Grottke died January 5, at the Neillsville hospital. Death was attributed to heart trouble. Ernest Grottke was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grottke, and was born in Germany on January 8, 1872, his burial taking place on his seventy-third birthday. He came to America when a small boy and moved with his parents to Clark county when he was 14 years of age, the family arriving here on Thanksgiving day, 1886. He has been a farmer in this community the past 59 years and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church. On April 19, 1897, Mr. Grottke was married at Neillsville to Anna Scharf, who survives. He is also survived by seven children: Alma Grottke, Milwaukee; Ida, Mrs. Faune Durni, Platteville; William Grottke, Sauk City; Walter, Bernard and Arnold, Neillsville; and Cpl. William Grottke, somewhere in Germany. There are eight grandchildren. One brother, Carl Grottke, resides in Sand Point, Idaho. His parents, five sisters and one brother are deceased. Two children died at an early age. Pallbearers were Herman Gloff, William Foemmel, Albert Kalsow, Henry Bartell, William Duge and Albert Hemp. Flower girls were Glorietta, Arlene, Carol, Jean and Janice Grottke and Virginia Holtz. Relatives from away who were here for the funeral services were: Miss Alma Grottke, Milwaukee; Mrs. Faune Durni, Platteville, and a nephew, Ervin Grottke, Chicago.
