--------- Brandt, August C. F. #3 (29 OCT 1866 – 17 MAR 1945)

August Carl Fredrick Brandt was born on Oct. 29, 1866 in Pinnow, Germany. He came to the U.S. in 1884 to Forest Junction, Wis., and remained there until 1889, when he moved to Glenwood City, where he met and later married Ida Prust, on March 2, 1890. Not long after that he moved to Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), where he had purchased a wild tract of land one mile west of there, which they worked into a nice farm. He lived on this farm for more than 50 years. When his health started to fail they moved to a smaller home west of the farm to a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Niemi, where he remained until his passing, of a heart attack on Saturday p.m.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Withee ever since it was organized.

Mr. and Mrs. August Brandt observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary four years ago.

Surviving are the five children: Joseph and Fred of Withee, Mr. Elmer (Martha) Meyer of Chicago, Mrs. Emil (Ida) Niemi of Withee, and Mrs. Gilbert (Viola) Meyer of Greenwood, and two grandchildren, Joyce Meyer of Greenwood and Emil Niemi Jr. of Withee. The eldest son, William, passed away 38 years ago at the age of 16. His wife also preceded him in death, when she passed away on Nov. 26, 1944.

His body lay in state at the Griebenow Funeral Home at Owen until Wednesday noon when it was taken to the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Withee, where 2:00 o’clock services were held and burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
