YeVonnie Marie Plantico, formally of Owen, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

YeVonnie was born October 13, 1931, to Irvin and Jessie (Castner) Mengel at Loyal. She completed school through the eighth grade. She then had to help on the family farm. Before her marriage she worked in the Marshfield area cleaning homes.

On November 12, 1949, she married Leo Edward Plantico at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee. They made their home at Loyal and farmed until they bought their own farm in 1958 at Owen. They farmed for 22 years and together raised two daughters, Judy and Sherry. They retired from farming in 1977, and made their home on a 40 they retained from the farm property. She was employed in the laundry department of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where she retired in 1996. The following two years she cared for her husband who was in ill health. After his death, she returned to work in the laundry department at St. Joseph's Hospital part time for another two years until 2001. She continued to live at her current home until September of 2007 when she sold the property and moved to North Carolina with her daughter Judy and son-in-law Gilbert.

She enjoyed tending to her home and keeping up her yard, fishing, going to dances on Sunday afternoons, traveling, including numerous trips to Montana and Wyoming with her sister Alice to visit relatives. She enjoyed spending time with her two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her family, Judy Calley and her husband, Gilbert of Lexington, N.C., their children, Aaron Calley and his wife Melody of Cannon Falls, Minn., May Gentle and her husband Brandon, their children, Madison and Gilbert, Adam Calley and his son, Jayden, and Addison Calley all of Lexington, N.C., Sherry Zdun of Arba Vita and her children, Christopher Zdun, Jason Zdun and his wife Amanda, and their children, Timothy and Ariel all of Wisconsin Rapids, and Janey Morales and her husband Javier of Cassadaga, Fla., and their children, Briana, Ariana, and Diana. She is survived by one sister, Alice Heckel of Marshfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in July of 1999; a son-in-law, Timothy Zdun; sisters, Ethel Krueger, Alveria Uerling; and brothers, Robert and Harry Mengel.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of North Green Grove of Colby.

Pallbearers are Christopher and Jason Zdun, Aaron, Adam, and Addison Calley, grandsons, and Brandon Gentle, grandson-in-law. Soloist is Brandon Gentle, grandson-in-law. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon, Withee. Rev. Dr. Paul Hunsicker will preside.
