HARRY HALLIGAN PLUNKETT

Harry H. Plunkett, 78, Greenwood died in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, April 16, 2008.

Harry Halligan Plunkett was born in Chicago, IL, April 4, 1930, the son of Harry Sr. and Frances (Evangelista) Plunkett. He received his education in the Greenwood area and graduated from Greenwood High School. Following graduation, Harry entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Upon his honorable discharge, Harry sought an apprenticeship as an electrician in the Greenwood area and then worked in Milwaukee for A. O. Smith as an electrician in the auto industry until his retirement. Harry and Dolores Moon were united in marriage in 1953 and raised eight children together. Harry returned to the Greenwood area in 1997 and remained there until his death. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood.

Harry loved gardening and woodworking, creating many special gifts over the years. He could be called a “master tinkerer.” His greatest love was his family, and you could always find him with one of his grandchildren on his lap and a smile on his face. He was a generous, sentimental man and a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to many.

He will be sadly missed by the mother of his children, Dolores; his children, Mary Evangelista, Germantown, Ellen (Lewis) Ingram, Louisville, KY, Kathleen Payne, Milwaukee, Joseph (Linda) Plunkett, Louisville, KY, Alice Van Slett, Pewaukee, Laura Sauer, Milwaukee, and John (Francine) Plunkett, West Allis. He is further survived by his 14 grand-children; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joseph (Pat) Plunkett, Minnesota, George (Marlene) Plunkett, Long Lake, Timothy (Jean) Plunkett, Warrens, and Alican McCarty, La Crosse; many loving nieces and nephews; good friend, Casey Gill, Milwaukee, and special friend, Denise Walde, Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Plunkett, in 1976 and two brothers, LeRoy Plunkett and Patrick Plunkett, in 1995.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood with Father Joseph Follmar officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Full military rites were performed by Wallis Hinker Post #238 of Greenwood.

Pallbearers were his brothers, Joseph, George and Timothy Plunkett; his sons, Joseph and John Plunkett; and his oldest grandson, Matt Zank.

Cuddie Funeral Home of Greenwood assisted the family with arrangements.
