Ezra Campbell, aged 81, a pioneer resident of Neillsville died on Saturday, November 18, at the Neillsville Hospital, following a stock which he suffered on Thursday just as he was preparing to take the bus to Minneapolis, to spend the winter at the home of his daughter.

Funeral services were held at the Lowe Funeral home on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock and burial services at Whitehall in the afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Floyd A. Fahlgren, pastor of the Methodist Church. Burial took place in the family lot at Whitehall.

Mr. Campbell was born in Monroe, Green County, Wis., on April 7, 1863, the son of William and Jane Everett Campbell. When a small boy, he came with his parents to Neillsville, and has made this his home ever since with the exception of two short periods when the family lived in Duluth and Superior.

On April 5, 1893, he was united in marriage to Karen Sandboe, who died February 5, 1943, just two months before their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Campbell was a man of untiring industry. He was s stone and brick mason, and did work on numberless buildings in this area, among them the Lowe Funeral home and the Armory. He did large part of the work in constructing the well at the city pumping station on 18th street. After he had passed his 80th birthday, he assisted in reconditioning the building now housing The Clark County Press. He was a member of the Woodman Lodge, and was well known to a large circle of friends.

One daughter, Sarah Jane (Sadie) Mrs. Eno Strand, survives. He was the oldest child in a family of 11 children, three brothers and three sisters having preceded him in death. The brothers and sisters who survive are: George W. Campbell, Bemidge, Minn.; Mrs. Idell Bascombe, Neillsville; Mrs. Bessie Stimpson, San Mateo, Cal.; and Mrs. Pearl James, Green Bay, Wis. Mrs. James was here for the funeral services. The brother, George was ill, and unable to come. Mr. and Mrs. Strand came to Neillsville Friday when word of their father’s illness reached them.
