John F. Hirsch, a long-time resident of Abbotsford, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, at about 74 years of age. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock in the Presbyterian church.

John F. Hirsch, a resident of Abbotsford for the last thirteen years, passed away at St. Joseph’s hospital at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, on January 18, 1933. Death was due to heart-failure following an operation. His passing came as a distinct shock to his family and friends, because he had not appeared to be seriously ill until later in the afternoon of Monday the 16th. Failing to respond to treatment at his home, he was hurried to the Chippewa Falls hospital where an operation was performed early Tuesday, but death came a day later.

John F. Hirsch was born in the town of Sherman, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, April 5, 1859. In 1885 he was married to Sarah J. Rohrbacher and lived on a farm in the town of Scott until 1902 when he moved with his family to a farm in Marathon County. He resided there until 1919, when he sold his farm and moved to the village of Abbotsford, where he resided until the time of his death. His wife died in 1925 and in 1931 he was married to Miss Flora M. Petrie of Abbotsford, who, with two sons, Everett of Rice Lake and Coryl of Abbotsford, survives him. Two other sons preceded him in death, Clyde, who died in infancy, and Calvin, who died in 1923.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford at two o’clock Saturday, January 21, the Reverend Bushendorf of Colby officiating. People from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Winkler of Milwaukee, Mrs. Edna Suessmith of Wauwatosa; Earl Hirsch of Plymouth, Miss Helga Riedt of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hirsch of Chilton and Mr. and Mrs. George Rohrbacher of Wayauwega.

Mr. Hirsch was a man of sterling character and represented a high type of American citizenship. His passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends.
