Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Withee high school auditorium for Edward Edmund Nielsen, 77, whose death occurred at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, Thursday, Mar. 16. He had been a patient at that institution for the past month, following a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mr. Nielsen was born in Denmark, May 4, 1867, and came to this country when a young man. He lived with his parents in Chicago, and came to Withee with them when the Danish colony was established in 1893. He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. Andreas S. Nielsen.

Shortly after his arrival in Withee he operated a feed and grist mill at the north village limits and later entered the watch repairing business, a profession which he learned while in Chicago. Forty years ago he moved his business to the business district of the village and has since been established there.

Mr. Nielsen was a member of the board of education of the village school for more than fifteen years, and served as Justice of the Peace for more than 40 years, as well as holding other public offices in his early business life. He was a citizen of the highest type and during his more than 40 years of business in Withee, won for himself a great many friends who will miss him in years to come.

He was married to Miss Alva Hack of Withee on May 27, 1903. Surviving are his wife, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Rubardt, Phoenix, Ariz., and Miss Anna Nielsen, Chicago. Two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Schaap and Mrs. Thyra Westergaard preceded him in death, as well as three brothers, Dr. Theodore Nielsen, Chicago, Dr. C. S. Nielsen, Withee, and Nicholas F. S. Nielsen, Withee.

Honorary pallbearers attending the funeral were: Ben Krom, Charles Kuehl, Charles Berger, Theodore Albert, Charles Larsen and Jens Stigsen. Active bearers were: Curtiss Hugill, Edwin Shern, Carl H. Beilfuss, Harry Thorson, Herman Bartholomay and Ewald Ammentorp.

Mr. Petran of Appleton was in charge of the rites, and burial took place in Riverside cemetery.
