Obit: Farning, Frank #2 (1862 – 1902)
Surnames: Farning ---------Source: NEILLSVILLE TIMES (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 04/03/1902 --------- Farning, Frank #2 (22 FEB 1862 – 31 MAR 1902) On Monday Frank Farning of this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) was instantly killed at Merrillan while attempting to board the fast mail. He was on his way to Fairchild and Tioga, and was with Anton Barton and Emery Bruley in Mose Bone’s Saloon, when the fast mail pulled in, stopped at the tank for water and then pulled through the station at a lively speed. Frank thought it was his train, although his friends shouted that it was not, and he made for it, grabbed a hand bar, and was thrown under the wheels. One leg and one arm were cut off, a hand severed, and the body otherwise mutilated. Three coaches passed over him. The remains were gathered up on a blanket and left on the track a short time awaiting the coroner. The regular northbound passenger train, which was the train he should have taken, passed the place a few minutes later, using the side-track. The remains were brought home on the afternoon freight. Deceased had a $2,000 insurance in the A.O.U.W. He had lived here all or nearly all his life, and was a farmer until he sold out a year or so ago, when he became one of the owners of the Palace saloon, selling out his share in that quite recently to his partner, Robt. Boullion. He had many friends, was genial and accommodating, and his death has cast a cloud of gloom over the community, and a feeling that in our most vigorous and healthful days, death lurks, we know not where, and may stretch his gaunt hand for us at any time. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic Church this morning. |
