Surnames: Bashford, Burdick, Beaver, Rosemead, Weber, Walker --------- The Loyal Tribune 23 April 1942 --------- Bashford, James B. (26 MAR 1859 – 16 APR 1942) Following a long illness, James B. Bashford, 83, died at his home in the village Thursday morning at 7:21. James B. Bashford was born March 26, 1859, in Dane county. There he grew to manhood and was married at Sun Prairie Jan. 1887, to Nettie J. Beaver. Fifteen years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bashford and children came to the town of Loyal and resided on a farm near the village until 1915, when they moved to the village and built a home, where they lived for 27 years, or until his death. Mr. Bashford was a kind neighbor and always gladly assisted those in need of help. He was always interested in farm life and particularly in pure stock, especially in purebred horses. Because of that interest he was instrumental in helping to organize “Loyal Days,” whose original purpose was a local fair for the community. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America for over 50 years, and members of that organization served as pallbearers at the funeral and conducted short services in the church and at the cemetery. The Bashfords observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1937. He is survived by his wife; three children, Mrs. Ross (Hester) Burdick of Rosemead, Cal, Miss Edna Bashford of Milwaukee and Earl Bashford of Hobart, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Weber of Farmer, S. D., and Mrs. Lucy Walker of Platte, S. D.; and a brother, Sherman Bashford of Seattle, Wash. A daughter died in 1896. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Loyal cemetery. The Rev. O. A. Jewell officiated. Pallbearers were Frank Coryell, Hal Voight, Peter Schoch, O. D. Poulton, George Weyhmiller and L. C. Bremer. Honorary pallbearers were James Colby, L. E. Bowman, Harry Greve, Frank Schultz Walter Rush, Walter Newman and James White. The many beautiful flowers were in charge of Mrs. R. K. Stevens, Mrs. Bob Wehling, Mrs. L. C. Bremer, Mrs. Jesse Raab, Mrs. V. O. Kauffman, Mrs. Charles Davel, Mrs. Carl Christensen, Mrs. Frank Oestreich and Mrs. Elmer Newman. In sympathy for Mrs. Bashford, who has been a royal Neighbor for many years, and for her family, the members of the Royal Neighbor Society attended the funeral in a body. Those from away who attended he funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. L. Johnson, Mrs. J. Kraft and Mrs. A. Snook, all of Cottage Grove; Mr. and Mrs. R. Beaver, Geraldine Beaver, Vernon Beaver and Norton Plats, all of Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Muir, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Wellie Davis, Spencer, and Walter Rush, Neillsville. |
