---Menning, Ernest (12 February 1857 – 11 April 1948)

Funeral services for Ernest Menning, 91, former farmer of this community, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Georgas Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. William Lauterbach of Granton. Burial was made in the North Pine Valley Cemetery. Mr. Menning died at 11 p.m. Saturday, April 11, (1908) at the Clark County Hospital at Owen, where he had been a patient recently.

Mr. Menning was born February 12, 1857, in Germany. At the age of nineteen he came to the United States and settled at Winona, Minn. He lived there for twenty-one years, working as a stone mason and farmer. In 1857 (1897), he located on a farm in the Town of Seif, Clark County, where he lived until recently.

On January 25, 1905, he was married to Caroline Huehme Dux, in the Town of Seif. Mrs. Menning died in 1940.

Surviving are two children, five step-children, twenty-eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. The children are; Albert Menning, of Neillsville, and Mrs. Arthur (Edith) Schoengarth of Willard. The step-children are; Mrs. Fred (Minnie) Lenz of the Town of Hewett; William Dux of Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Henry (Martha) Wasserburger of Neillsville; Mrs. Frank (Mattie) Lange and Emil Dux of Willard.

One step-sister is deceased, also three step-children; Mrs. Bertha Pease of Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Louise Furlong of the Town of Weston; and Mrs. Rose Erickson of Minneapolis, Minn.
