--------- Clark, Mary A. V. (21 AUG 1832 – 18 NOV 1904)

In San Francisco, Calif., Nov. 18th, 1904, Mary A. V. Clark, beloved wife of the late Albert Webster Clark, and mother of G. H. and Perry Clark, aged seventy-two years, two months and twenty-nine days.

Accompanying the above brief notice the son Perry sent a letter in which he said: “Her granddaughter, Maud B. Clark, and I were with her at the end. My brother G. H. was here the first part of the summer, when she first got sick, and I have been with her since he had to go home. She passed away very quietly, and had her senses almost to the last. Mrs. French came up from Los Angeles and spent a week.

“We have been at the home of Mrs. Chas. C. Bussell, formerly of Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), who has been a great friend to us.”

How simple a thing it is to cease being, to fade from among the dear ones and go back into the elements, leaving everything, love, wealth, and all that gives short-lived, perishable humanity joy and sorrow, trouble and care! Mrs. Clark was an adorable lady of the old school, proud of family and of demeanor, a dame so good to look upon that she seemed to have walked out of some rich oil painting of colonial times, when gallantry and great politeness reigned. Most of her life was spent on the old Clark farm, where she reared a family and won an enviable reputation for hospitality. Dying in the remote west she does not seem as dead to the old friends here, who will long cherish the memory of the vivacious woman who did so much to cheer and bless.

The body of decedent, at her request, was cremated at San Francisco, the remains to be sent here and buried between the graves of the husband and the son William. The funeral here was appointed for last Monday, but delay has occurred and will be held when the ashes are received.
