The Phonograph has been informed that some of the taxpayers in town refuse to go on the road to work where the path-master orders, but insist on working out their road tax where they wish, which is entirely wrong as no tax payer can receive credit for work on the highways unless said work is done under the direction of the overseer. Highway taxes are payable in cash, but, the law provides that persons may pay these taxes in work, by appearing with teams or such implements and at such place as the overseer may direct.

Wils Covil, while her said, in some places could hardly find the road there was so much mud on top of it. Last winter Neillsville men were telling what excellent roads there were in this portion of the county, the year round, and there is no doubt but it is a fact, the only trouble is that they are covered so deeply with mud that we have not yet had a chance to test them. Never mind Wils, two years hence we will have a county organization of our own and will then soon have good roads.

The people of Neillsville are all torn up over the finding of the skeleton of a man near the city limits. The ghastly find was made by some fence builders in the employ of Jas. Hewett. There was nothing left to identify the remains by, excepting a pair of boots and few shreds of some dark bleu clothing, the flesh being entirely gone. On the pieces of cloth found, were some dark stains which analyzation prove to be blood, pointed to foul play.
