Leonard Habersetzer has commenced work on the County Line Road. His contract will make the road a good one from the village to Lamonts. He is to pull out the stumps and roots the full width of the road and make a double turn-pike. The Town of Hull portion of the county line road running North is in good condition with the exception of a short piece on which E. T. Parkhill has a contract and is about to complete this month. About half mile of the road, belonging to the Town of Colby to repair, on the South end is in terrible condition and should have some attention this fall.

John Stargart, quite an old man, who has been working for V. Stepan, for some weeks past, was fatally kicked by a colt he was leading, on Thursday last. The colt struck him in the abdomen injuring him so severely as to cause death which occurred on Monday morning. A son residing at Spencer was sent for and come up Monday afternoon. The old man was buried yesterday afternoon.

Last Saturday N. P. Peterson called at the Commercial House, on business, when Miss May directed his attention to the parrot in the cage, and as Nels would say “Pretty Poll.” “Poll want a cracker,” etc., the owl would open his big eyes and stare as though he was trying to understand what was being said. If Peterson had set up the cigars we never should have mentioned this.

O.R. Potter caught a hansome screech owl, last Thursday evening, in the hotel it having flown in through the window. He procured a cage and now has quite a pet.
