Missing Milan Man Found Dead In Swamp Milan

The body of Henry Stielow, 71 year old Milan man, who wandered away from his home here June 20, was found in a swamp one mile North of Milan Wednesday by Arthur Ewan, who accidentally made the discovery.

The Marathon County sheriff, aided by boys from a CCC camp had been searching for the missing man for the past few days. Mr. Stielow had been making his home with Mr. and Mrs. William Kraus before the time of his disappearance.

Henry Stielow was born in Germany Dec. 19, 1865. He came to this country at the age of 19 years. Mr. Stielow served in the Spanish-American war. He operated a farm about four miles Southwest of Milan for several years and was proprietor of a store and tavern her for a number of years. Funeral services will be held from Abbotsford, Friday afternoon at two o’clock. Military rites will be in charge of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

$6000,000 Fire Battle Is Lost by Medford and Rib Lake Loss estimated at $6000,000 was caused Sunday when a fire of undetermined origin swept the extensive Hurd Millwork corporation’s plant here, leaving the main portion of the building despite a three-hour battle by the volunteer fire departments of Medford and Rib Lake.

The plant, in operation 20 years, covered almost five acres. It had been in full operation, employing 160 men.

Whether it will be rebuilt was termed doubtful by Harry Hurd of Merrill, president.

Besides the building, most of the firm’s machinery and stock were destroyed.
