Roy J. Eddy, 82, of Merrillan died Friday, September 5, 2008, at Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls.

Roy was born March 25, 1926, in Sparta to parents Roy and Lulu (Sage) Eddy, Sr.

He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He married Genevie Butterfield December 16, 1948, in Black River Falls. They lived in Merrillan for many years with the exception of five years when they lived in Neillsville and Beloit.

Roy was employed by the L. G. Arnold Company as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. He also owned Roy Eddy and Sons, an automobile salvage and repair business in Merrillan.

He was a 60-year member of the Merrillan American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans of Black River Falls. He also belonged to the Merrillan Lions Club. Years ago, he was a Little League coach.

Roy was a family man, and he enjoyed doing yard work, going fishing and playing cards. He also loved to eat cookies.

Roy is survived by his wife, Genevie “Ginny”; one son, Jeff (Barb) Eddy of Merrillan; one daughter-in-law, Jolene Eddy of Larose, LA; three daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Manthey, Pamela (Randy) Brown and Kathy (Paul) Zimmerman, all of Merrillan; two brothers, Gerald Eddy of Black River Falls and Jack (Betty) Eddy of Beloit; one sister-in-law, Margaret Eddy of Neillsville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Eddy, Sr.; three brothers, Harold, Kenny and Edgar; three sisters, fern, Sylvia and Evelyn; and two infant sisters, Nancy and Erma Jean.

Funeral services for Roy J. Eddy were held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008, at the United Methodist Church, Merrillan, with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating. Burial took place in Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan, with military rites by the Merrillan American Legion Post #140 and the Alma Center VFW Post #8494. Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also at the church one hour prior to services.

Casketbearers were David Eddy, Steve Eddy, John Hayden, Austin Manthey-Lamon, Dalton Manthey-Lamon, and Trey Manthey-Lamon. Honorary bearers were all who knew and loved Roy.
