October 28, 1948 ---Smith, Shirley Delores (Marriage – 23 October 1948) In a ceremony performed at Holy Rosary Church, Owen, last Saturday morning, Shirley Delores Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith of Owen, became the bride of Joseph E. Karaba of Milwaukee. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Fr. Bornbach. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a white satin gown trimmed with a lace yoke; and sleeves which came to a point at the wrist. A hoop skirt, Colonial style, ended in a long, lace-edged train, and a fingertip veil edged in embroidery fell from a tiara of orange blossoms. She wore a set of pearl earrings, a gift from the groom. Matron of honor was Mrs. Eugene Karaba, sister-in-law of the groom. Bridesmaids were Mathilda Karaba, sister of the groom, and Mrs. John Karaba, sister-in-law of the groom. Both are from Milwaukee. Best man was Eugene Karaba of Milwaukee, the groom’s brother; and groomsmen were John Karaba of Milwaukee, another brother of the groom, and Clifford Smith, a brother of the bride. Music was played by Mrs. Larsen of Withee. A dinner was held at 1 o’clock at the Woodland Hotel for 75 guests, and was followed by a reception at the home of the bride’s parents. The newlyweds left on a two-week honeymoon, after which they will be at home in Milwaukee, where both are employed. The bride is a graduate of Owen High School, and has been employed as a typist for the last year. The groom is employed by a Milwaukee automobile concern. He is a veteran of service in the Philippines and Japan with parachute troops. He was inducted in June of 1944, and served until August of 1947. Out-of-town guests included: Mrs. Mary Fiala of Fort Dodge, Ia.; Mrs. Leo Schill and daughter, Judy, of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Lisowe of St. Cloud; Mrs. Wendel Rebro of Necedah; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith of Rosendale; Mrs. Engman Gilbertson and daughters, Lemoine, Marjorie and Janet, all of Fond du Lac; Mrs. Albert Balthazor, also of Fond du Lac; Ben Kolbeck, Joseph Lisi, Mrs. Della Netto and children, Mrs. Evelyn Koffarnus, Mr. and Mrs. John Karaba, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Karaba and daughter, Matilda, all of Milwaukee; Marjorie Bublity of Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. John Robida of Stetsonville.
