News: Local Tidbits June 1879
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 6-27-1879 Mr. Linton McNeill, of Baraboo, traveling for the celebrated music House of W. W. Kimball, Chicago, is paying a visit here. He is a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Canon, with whom he is stopping. His intention is to combine business and pleasure during his stay here, and make things lively in the music line. Robert McAdams and Wm. McFarland a few days ago found in the woods, in the town of Levis, a rare curiosity in the shape of two deer skulls, with horns so locked together that they cannot be gotten apart without breaking. The two animals were no doubt fighting when their horns became so locked, and resulted in their starving or dying of thirst. The balance of the skeletons were found with the skulls, all in a perfect state, indicating the recent death of the animals. One of them was evidently a monstrous animal, carrying a pair of antlers with twelve points. The other skull was that of a large animal, but hardly a fit antagonist for the largest one. “Something New for Neillsville” I would respectfully call the attention of the public to the fact that my new refrigerator is now complete and in running order, and that I can furnish the very choicest of roasts, steaks, cutlets, &c., on short notice. The highest market price paid for fat cattle. C. H. Gates Rossman’s new bowling alley was opened to the public yesterday. It is one of the finest places of the kind we have ever seen, and will undoubtedly receive a good patronage. There is no game better adapted to giving healthy exercise to the body and recreation to the mind. |
