News: Local Tidbits 9-26-1879
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 9-26-1879 Billy Heaslett has got settled and at work in his new building, next to the office of this paper. He is a skilled workman at almost any job that can be brought to him, his forte being the repair of guns and light machinery, such as sewing machines. He has full facilities for all such work, and turns off work with great promptness and at very low rates. He keeps a good supply of sportsmen’s supplies and sewing machine needles and attachments of all kinds. A row, which ended in a sort of general fight, occurred at the Rossman House last Sunday morning. A man named Monaghan, which under the influence of liquor, somewhat, took up a gun in the office of the hotel. George Rossman took it out of his hand, using, as Monagan claims, some harsh language, whereupon the latter made an attack on George. Thereupon several bystanders got mixed into the fight, which was progressing lively when Sheriff Houston and Tom Hommel appeared and quelled the riot. George and Monagan were both somewhat battered. Both were arrested, Monaghan pleading guilty next day and pays a fine of $5 and costs. George pleaded not guilty and was acquitted. |
