----Buchanan, Mary Elizabeth (17 Nov. 1862 – 17 July 1934)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Haynes Buchanan were held at the Curtiss Congregational church at 9:30 o’clock Thursday morning. Rev. W. P. Powell of Owen held the funeral services.

Mrs. Buchanan passed away July 17, 1934 at 9:30 P.M. at the St. Joseph hospital at Chippewa Falls of diabetes and infection which had set in.

Mrs. Buchanan had been born Mary Elizabeth Haynes in Illinois Nov. 17, 1862. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa. She accepted her Christ in early childhood and has remained a sincere Christian her entire life. She was a member of the Curtiss Congregational church and the Helping Hand Society. She was united in marriage Dec. 18, 1884 to George A. Buchanan. To this union was born eight children, seven of whom survive her. Her husband preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1921 and a son Carl April 4, 1915. After the death of her husband she moved to Curtiss with her son Floyd with whom she made her home.

The relatives that survive her are her children, Mrs. Bertha Smiley and Floyd of Curtiss, Glen of Withee, Mrs. Lucy Hall of Medford, Mrs. Mary Grout, Winterset, Iowa; also five sisters, four brothers and eighteen grand-children.

Burial took place Saturday in the Winterset cemetery, Iowa.
