Surnames: Berger, Heagle, Kuehl, Brunner Source: OWEN ENTERPRISE (Owen, Clark County, Wis.) 11/02/1950 Berger, Carl, Mr./Mrs. (50th – 24 OCT 1950) On Sunday, Oct. 22nd, 1950, occurred the celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Berger’s Golden Wedding Anniversary when open house was held at their home in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Carl Berger and Ella Heagle were married in Thorp, Wis., Oct. 24, 1900, and Mr. Charles Kuehl, Withee, and Mrs. Edith Brunner, Thorp, attended them. The Rev. Bachman officiated at their wedding. Mr. Kuehl and Mrs. Brunner were their guests Sunday, as well as their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Berger, and their daughter, Donna Gale, Appleton, and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Heagle of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Heagle is Mrs. Berger’s brother. Other relatives and friends who attended from out of town were: Miss Adella C. Bruss, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Madsen, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Madsen and two daughters, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fults, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brunner, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Fredericks, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Ebbie Cook, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Loran Bivans and daughter Laurel, Stanley; Ed Heagle, Cadott and Rev. and Mrs. Shaw, Stanley. The Berger home was beautifully decorated with flowers appropriate for the occasion. Mrs. Berger and Mrs. Brunner each wore a lovely corsage of yellow roses, present to them by the groom of fifty years ago. A beautiful three-layer wedding cake graced the dining room table, from which a delicious lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Berger have spent their fifty years of happy married life in Withee, where they came on the eve of their wedding. They are a grand couples and it is a treat to listen to Mr. Berger tell of the Withee of long ago. Each step of its growth he remembers distinctly and with pride. Many friends and relatives gathered to pay tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Berger, which attests the love and esteem everyone in the community hold for them. Special services were held at the Withee Methodist Church for the Bergers where the Reverends Shaw officiated.. A quartet sang “In the Garden,” a favorite song of the Bergers. Rev. Shaw paid tribute to them in his sermon and Mrs. Shaw, also an ordained minister, asked a special blessing for them. They were also presented with a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses and yellow chrysanthemums. On Saturday night, Oct. 21, 1950, the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Withee had a party for them. A lovely lunch was served and they were presented with a gift of money, and Mr. and Mrs. Berger both responded with words of appreciation. The hall was very pretty with fall flowers and a mock wedding was held. Mr. Berger was an organizer and charter member of the Odd Fellows and Mrs. Berger is a charter member of the Rebekahs. |
