Baker, Mr. & Mrs. James (Golden - 19 March 1952)

Mr. and Mrs. James Baker, Town of York couple, were pleasantly surprised Sunday when about 100 friends, relatives and neighbors gathered at the Wendell Crothers home to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Baker were married on March 19, 1902, at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Rosemeyer, and they lived with this couple for a few weeks while the house on the farm they now occupy was being built. This farm has been their home ever since. The wild tract of land has been developed into a fine farm and Mr. Baker, 74 years of age, still carries on the work alone. He has a fine herd of cattle, 16 of them milch cows. One son, Donald, was born to this couple and he makes his home in Eau Claire. There is also one grandchild, Jean a student in college.

The gathering on Sunday was arranged by Mrs. Wendell Crothers, who was assisted by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jack Crothers, and daughter, Mrs. Merle Bartsch. Mrs. Crothers is a close friend of the Bakers and it was her father, John P. Kintzele, Justice of the Peace, who performed the marriage ceremony 50 years ago.

Those from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Baker, Lester Steverson, Mrs. Mildred Baker and Miss Jean Baker, all of Eau Claire. Several relatives from away were prevented from coming by the storm on Saturday.
