Tribune (Abbotsford, Clark County, Wis.) 10/01/1953 ----Benzmann, Mr./Mrs.
Paul (50th Anniv. – 27 Sept. 1953) The 50th
wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benzmann was observed Sunday, Sept. 27,
at their home near Milan. Highlighting the
observance were the vesper services held in the afternoon at the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, during which the Rev. Harold Malotky officiated, and Mrs.
Malotky sang “Lead, Kindly Light” accompanied by Mrs. Orville Barkow. Following the service,
the group enjoyed an old-fashioned “sing” after which members of the Ladies’ Aid
Society and the Rev. Malotky presented special entertainment. As a surprise to the
honored couple, the Ladies Aid served supper to almost 80 relatives and friends
in the church parlors, where decorations were gold and white streamers and gold
bells. The specially decorated cake which centered the table was a gift to them
from a long time neighbor and friend, Mrs. Clara Kramer. Mrs. Benzmann, the former
Martha Pagel, was born at Dorchester Dec. 31, 1883. Her husband was born Dec.
15, 1875, in Pomerania, Germany, and came to this country in 1894. He lived on a
farm near Dorchester, then later worked for the Ellingson Lumber Co. at
Stetsonville for three years. He came to Milan in January of 1901. The couple were married
at Sawyer on Sept. 27, 1903. Two sons were born to
them, Ervin, now deceased, and Arlo, who is now with the U.S. Soil Conservation
Co. at Morris, Ill. Mrs. Benzmann has a
sister, Mrs. Fred Lindner at Colby, and Mr. Benzmann’s brother, William, is on
the home farm at Dorchester. Relatives and friends from away who were present are son, Arlo, Morris, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. William Benzmann and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Habeck, Otto and Herman Fitzlaff, all of Dorchester; Mrs. Fred Lindner, Art Lindner and son, of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bramer, and Edwin and George Bramer, all of Summit Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Fitzlaff, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Giese and family of Boulder Junction; Mr. and Mrs. George Blank, and Mrs. Molly Harry of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Joel Skoog and son, Prentice; Mrs. Emma Wilhelmi, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Woempner of Abbotsford; and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Junod, of Morris, Ill. |
