Mrs. Elizabeth Hinkes died at 6:30 Tuesday morning at the home of her son-in-law, Joe Weix, of old age.

Mrs. Hinkes, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Kohns, was born in Neiderweis, Trier, Germany, and came to this country with her parents when she was seven years of age, settling in Illinois. She was married to Peter Hinkes at St. Charles, Ill., April 3, 1856 and four years later moved with him to a farm in Leroy, Wis., where, through hard work, they built one of the finest farms in Leroy. That coutry was, at that time, still a vast wilderness and they, like all pioneers, suffered all the hardships and privations known to all early settlers. Ten children were born to them, three of whom, Helen Withmann, Elizabeth Baurer and Joe Hinkes, preceded her in death. The Children still living are Mathew Hinkes, Colby, Mary Weinberger, Mayville, Annie Hausner, Leroy, John Hinkes, Appleton, Peter Hinkes, Leroy, Mrs. Celia Weix, Colby, Wis., and Ella Hoffman, Wausau.

Fifteen and one-half years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Hinkes celebrated their golden anniversary. Aug. 18, 1915, Mr. Peter Hinkes was called to the great beyond and was buried at Leroy, Wis.

After the death of her husband, she lived with her children, but for the last four years made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weix of Colby, where she received the best care and attention in her old age. Mrs. Ella Hoffmann; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weix and family were at her bedside when she quietly passed away.

The deceased was a quiet and unassuming woman and all that a loving wife and mother could be. She will be buried from the St. Andrews Church, Leroy, Rev. Delias officiating, Friday morning, interment in the Leroy Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Hinkes and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weix of Colby, left Wednesday morning, with the remains, to attend the funeral at Leroy.
