One John Erickson came in from one of the camps to spend Christmas. For being too convivial he was run in and spent the latter part of the day in the “cooler”. When brought before Police Justice Kountz, Tuesday morning, having no apology to offer, the measure of damages to the peace and dignity of the state was placed at three dollars and costs. Not having the funds where with to liquidate the claim in his possession, he was sent to jail for the space of five days.

The Spencer Tribune of last week contains an account of the burning of S. A. Cook, at Unity, on Monday of last week. The fire originated from the explosion of a kerosene lamp, and the building with its entire contents went up in smoke. The building was valued at $5,000 and insured for $2,500. This is the second loss of the kind. Mr. Cook has met with at Unity within the past two years.

Hon. Chauncey Blakeslee has been seriously, if not dangerously ill, for several days past. He has been in poor health for the past year, and little hopes of his restoration to health is entertained by his physicians. Mr. Blakeslee has long been one of the leading business men of Neillsville, having been among the first to embark in trade at this place, and being possessed of rare social qualities, which make friends of all, the entire community earnestly hope for his speedy recovery.

The German portion of our population celebrated Christmas very appropriately at the M. E. Church last Monday evening, A Christmas tree well loaded with presents being one feature of the occasion.

A crazy Norwegian was brought in from one of Hewett’s Camps yesterday and placed in the county jail. His lunacy consists in a belief that the Free Masons are after him to take his life.
