Obit: Petrie, S. G. (1838 – 1924)
Surnames: PETRIE BALLOU FITZGERALD SNYDER SYNDER ---------Source: ABBOTSFORD TRIBUNE (Abbotsford, Wis.) 03/20/1924 --------- Petrie, S. G. (18 SEP 1838 – 12 MAR 1924) S. G. Petrie, another Civil War veteran and Wisconsin pioneer, has passed on, the cause of his death being pneumonia. Mr. Petrie was born in Louis Co., N.Y., Sept. 18, 1838 and died Wednesday, March 12, 1924, being at the time of his death 85 years, 5 months and 23 days old. He came to Wisconsin when he was seventeen years of age and has since resided in this state. N March 14, 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ballou at Sherwood, Wis. On Oct. 7, 1861 he enlisted in Co. C. 10 Regiment of Wis. Infantry Volunteers and received his honorable discharge at Milwaukee the 3rd day of Nov. 1864, after serving three years as a soldier and participating in some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Thirteen years ago he moved to this village with his family. Two years later, Feb. 8, 1913, his wife Mrs. Mary Petrie passed away. He leaves four children to mourn his loss, Mrs. Carrie Fitzgerald and Mrs. Minnie Synder, both of Los Angeles, Cal., Carl Petrie of Plymouth, Wis. and Miss Flora Petrie of this city, who has cared for her father for the past several years. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Von Busch officiating and Civil War and World War Veterans paying due respects. Burial was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery beside the grave of his wife. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Carl Petrie of Plymouth, Wis., Mrs. Pierce of Oshkosh and Henry Ballou of Neenah. Mr. Petrie had the respect and affection of many neighbors and friends who will greatly miss him, and who wish to extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing ones. |
