Humbird Hummings On Thursday of last week the dwelling house of Peter Coon, who lives about three miles from Humbird, was burned to the ground with all its contents. The fire originated in the upper part of the house and when first discovered was so far advanced that they has scarcely time to save themselves. It was during a severe snow storm and Mrs. Coon was compelled to cover her children in the stables with straw while she went to a neighbor’s for a team to move them to the house of a friend. The loss will be a very severe one to Mr. Coon, who is nearly blind, as it takes his home, furniture, bedding and clothing, upon which there was no insurance. A subscription paper was circulated a few days after the fire, which adds one more proof of the generosity of the people in this vicinity.

Mr. E. L. Craig, who exchanged farms with E. Horel, is now settled in his new home and Mr. Horel has moved to Tomah.

Our public school commenced this week under the management of Mr. Cooley and Miss May Gibson, which is a guarantee that general satisfaction will be given.

Nic Andrews is busy putting in logs for the new mill to be built on his land the coming spring.

Died, Jan. 14, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Hartman. The funeral was held at the house last Tuesday, Elder Smith officiating.

Pine Valley Valets Mr Andrew Ross started last Monday for Alabama, where he has two brothers living, for the benefit of his health.

Mrs. Margaret Bond, who has been visiting her brother, L. W. Rodman, for about four weeks, started for her home in Kansas last Monday.

Mrs. Helen Nisen, of Menomonee county, Michigan, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Rodman, started home Monday.
