F. J. Behrens, commercial agent for the spice house of J. G. Flint & Co. of Milwaukee, was his wife, arrived in the city on last Friday, and visited with Henry Mahar, a brother of Mrs. Behrens until last Tuesday when they returned to their home in Milwaukee.

On last Monday afternoon J. P. Lester sent up his mammoth hat air balloon to a height variously estimated from 1,000 to 1,500 feet, the aeronaut being Ben. Hart, who made the ascension and safely landed on Second street, near the O’Neill House without any accident.

M. W. Parker, on account of ill health has resigned his position as foreman in the newspaper and job departments of the Republican and Press and will retire from the printing business in a short time. His place will be supplied by another, and job work and general printing will be continued as usual.

UNITY UNITS: Mrs. M. P/ Walker, a sister of W. H. H. Kitty, and daughter Emma, of Sharon, Pa., are here visiting Mr. Kitty and her mother, having seen neither for fifteen years.

John Salter’s drug store will be finished soon. W. P. Miller, formerly of Neillsville, has put up a drug store on J. H. Cook’s old site. Success to him.

LONGWOOD ITEMS: The social event of last week was the marriage of Mr. Frank W. Sear to Miss Una Smith, on the morning of the 26th. The bride is the daughter of Edward Smith, of this place.

Out neighbor, G. W. Prentice, has his culinary department all in good running order again. Justice Tufts having righted all the wrongs committed by those who sought in the midnight hour to invade it.

J. A. McCarty has just completed a nice little cottage in which her parents are to reside.

Pat Shehan has now become a resident of Longwood, and will soon erect a good house. He heartily welcome his coming, and would be glad to welcome many more energetic men like him.
