News: The Clark Republican and Press 5-13-1886
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 5-13-1886 Gus Baruch has moved into the Dewhuast house, on West street, and John Standard has moved into the Gates house just vacated by Baruch. John says he don’t like the color. Everly has painted his house, and that’s the reason he moved out. William, an exotic from the sunny south, brought to this country by Capt. La Flesh, has been engaged for a day or two in putting our garden into shape for the summer campaign. We expect soon to see the wilderness blossom like the rose, and all on account of sweet William. A man by the name of Fleming, of the town of Hewett, was arrested Tuesday, for arson on complaint of his brother-in-law. When the sheriff went to the jail yesterday to bring him down for examination he found that he had deliberately taken off all his clothes and burnt them up. The sheriff should have turned the hose on on him in that condition and given him a thorough washing off with cold water. Bob Boullion, of Merrilan, is a good chicken hunter, but is not a first-class fisherman for trout. He does not take good care of the bait; allows some of the Hixton cranks to steal it. It was hard work for him to catch trout down there last week owing to that cause. There didn’t seem to be any spirit to his fishing, consequently when he dropped a line to the trout, asking them to take something, they would not respond, because he did not have anything to moisten the bait with Trout can’t be inveigled into taking the hook in such a dry way. He says, however, the next time he goes fishing he’ll early the bait in his pocket, as he can’t trust the temperance people of Hixton. The temptation is too great for them when the bottle of bait is left in the buggy. |
