--------- Kobs, Herman J. Sr. (27 SEP 1866 - 14 JUN 1928)

Herman John Kobs, Sr., an early resident of Unity, Wis., died last Thursday morning, organic heart disease being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. He was buried last Sunday afternoon from Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. A. Kirchhoefer officiating. A large host of his friends attended the funeral and he was laid at rest in the Colby Cemetery.

The deceased was born in Milwaukee sept. 27, 1866, thus attaining the age of 61 years, 9 months and 13 days. In 1891 he was married to Miss Nannie Leohning, who survives him. The Lord blessed their union with twelve children, four of who have preceded their father in death: Carl, dying soon after birth; John, when six months old; Otto, during the World War; and Henry, a few years ago. The children still living are: Mrs. Alma Hudson and Mrs. Elsa Perkis of Unity; Mrs. Ottilie Kurth of Neillsville, Herman Jr., Wallace, Lester, Isabel and Norman. The following brothers and sisters survived the deceased: Julius of Colby, Henry of Milwaukee, Fred, Mrs. Minnie Bleichroth and Mrs. Bertha Grambort of Colby, besides eleven grandchildren. Mr. Kobs was formerly proprietor of the Forest Hotel in Unity, but later purchased a large farm just north of that village, where the family now resides.

He was a man of generous impulses and fine moral character and made many warm friends who extend sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
