Surnames: NIELSEN PAULSEN WESTERGAARD SCHOOP RUBARDT ---------Source: WITHEE SENTINEL (Withee, Clark County, Wis.) 10/27/1911 --------- Nielsen, Johanna (20 MAY 1835 - 20 OCT 1911) Mrs. A. S. Nielsen, of whom mention was made in our last issue, the widow of the late pastor A. S. Nielsen, founder of the first Danish Colony in America, passed away at her home in this village (Withee, Clark County, Wis.), Oct. 20, 1911. Johanna Paulsen was born May 20, 1835 on the Island of Mors Jutland, Denmark, and was married Oct. 29, 1858 to pastor A. S. Nielsen and came to America in 1871, at which time the 1st Danish Church was organized at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Eight years later they moved to Chicago, where they remained until 1893, when they removed to Withee, Wis. Mrs. Nielsen was one of those rare souls, filled with helpfulness and unselfish love for others, manifested that surely the inner life was rich and full, and to know her was to love her. She leaves to mourn her death six children, Dr. C. S. Edmond E., Mrs. F. Westergaard, and Miss Nanna of Withee, Mrs. Asex Schoop of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. O. P. Rubardt of Chicago, all being present at the funeral except Mrs. Schoop, who was unable to attend. |
