News: The Clark Republican and Press 2-17-1898
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 2-17-1898 Wallace Lacey of St. Paul was married to Miss Bone of Merrillan Tuesday of this week. Both are well known here, especially Wallace, whose home people live here. A letter was received Tuesday from Gus Klopf at Port Townsend saying that by the time it reached here the crowd of gold hunters would have set sail for Copper river. Peter Peterson, foreman of Tom Kern’s camp, met with an accident last Monday by a log rolling upon him, causing a fracture of the left leg below the knee. Drs. Esch & Conroy reduced the fracture. Louis Nelson of Shortville accidentally struck himself on the knee with the blade of an ax he was handling last Wednesday. The as blade cut a deep gash just under the knee-cap but strange to say at this date he is using that member with no sign of being crippled. Farmers in the town of Liberty, Grant county, are greatly excited over the discovery of silver, found at a depth of 125 feet, while drilling a well on the farm of Louis Lentz. Samples os the ore were sent to the state geologist at Madison to be assayed. Old miners claim that the ore was found in paying quantities. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Whitcomb and son Hugh attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mrs. Whitcomb’s father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Morris, who resides at Augusta, on Tuesday of this week. |
