O. P. Johnson of Owatowanna, Minn., has purchased a farm eight miles south of Neillsville and taken possession.

Prof. A. O. Rea, who is teaching at Blair stopped off Saturday to visit is daughter, one of the teachers in the North Side School. He was on his way to Thorp where he will spend the spring vacation with his family.

Dan Stannard and Harry Robbins went to Stevens Point last Sunday to take a civil service examination held in that city on the following day. Dan took the railway mail clerk examination, while Harry wrote for a department clerkship. There were only 14 or 15 candidates for the examination, ten of whom wanted to be railway mail clerks.

Mrs. Nate Manes received a telegram Saturday afternoon from her daughter Mrs. Mabel Gorman of Abbortsford, that her child, a baby of six months or more had died. Mrs. Manes left for that place on the Sunday morning train, leaving behind her, two of the children who are very sick, Mrs. Gus Hosely and the youngest girl, Katie. The old saying that “troubles never come singly” surely comes true in this case.

A. C. Ludington writes his father Capt. Geo. A. Ludington, from Marquette, Mich., where he is in the employ of the Marquette County Telephone Company. Albert is general superintendent for the company and his salary fits the position handsomely. He says that the snow banks in Marquette range from fifteen to twenty feet high.

Henry Schildhauer has received the appointment of Division Deputy Revenue Collector and is stationed at Marshfield. His Division covers several counties in the north central part of the state. Mr. Schildhauer was in the city Saturday on business.

As I propose to close all book accounts, persons owing me are requested to call and settle by April 15th, or their accounts will be placed in the hands of an attorney for collections. Geo. Wiesner
