--------- Elliott, Hugh M. (? - 26 MAY 1927)

Hugh M. Elliott, father of Mrs. E. W. Kidd, passed away at the home of his daughter in this city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.) today, following an illness of about six days, of pneumonia. He had been in failing health for the past several weeks, and when he contracted this disease it was more than his constitution could withstand. Death occurred at about 11:00 o'clock a.m.

Mr. Elliott came to Owen about three years ago to make his home with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Kidd, and up until only a short time ago, had been active in insurance work in the office of Kidd & Co. He was highly respected and well liked by all those who came to know him during his short residence here. When Owen was first incorporated into a village, Mr. Elliott came here for Eau Claire and with his son-in-law, T. H. Wylie, entered the clothing business, and for about two years he was one of the leading merchants of the city. Then after the sale of his interests in the store he again returned to Eau Claire, where he continued his residence until his coming here three years ago. He was a resident of Eau Claire for fifty-seven years and while in that city was engaged in the lumber business. Mr. Elliott was also the oldest member of the Masonic order in the state, and was 80 years of age.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, J. W. Elliott of Hot Springs, Ark., and Clare Elliott of Ashland, and two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Wylie of Eau Claire and Mrs. E. W. Kidd of this city.

The remains were taken to Eau Claire this evening for burial, and a private funeral will be held from the Lenmark undertaking parlors Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. J. W. Barry officiating. Masonic rites will be held at the grave in Lake View Cemetery.
