25 Years Ago, January 19, 1978 Deanne P. Goettl, Miss Stanley, representing the Stanley Commercial Club, and Debbie Mitchell, Miss Boyd, representing the Boyd's Businessmen's Association, will be two of 57 queens at the St. Paul, Minn. Winter Carnival, which begins Feb. 2nd.

The resignation of Kim Barquist from the local police force was accepted by the city council. Mayor John Kessenich then appointed Jim Hayes police chief for a period to run until Dec. 31 of this year and the appointment was accepted by the council.

40 Years Ago, February 24, 1963 Eight girls, two frm each high school class, are candidates for the queen's crown at the Stanley-Boyd High School's "Sweetheart Dance" that will be held Feb. 8 at the junior high gym and is sponsored by the junior class. The queen will be elected by penny votes, with jard for voting to be placed around town and in the high school. Queen candidates are freshman Linda LaMarche and Paula Ryba, sophmores Janice Eslinger and Elaine Nesterick, juniors Mary Beth Eslinger and Dianne Simenson, and seniors Pat Eslinger and Rose Marie Slowiak.

50 Years Ago, January 22, 1953 Mr. and Mrs. George Soderberg observed the 60th anniversary of their wedding on Jan. 14.

60 Years Ago, January 22, 1943 The people of Great Britain are restricted to a ration of one fresh egg per person per month, after being without any for several months. Priority of a dozen eggs per month is granted to mothers, invalids and infants. The cheese allotment is cut from eight to six ounces weekly.

70 Years Ago, January 20, 1933 No issue available due to damage.

100 Years Ago, January 24, 1903 The resolutin to acquire $15,000 from the state trust fund was rejected by Stanley voters, 120 - 271.
