Obit: Head, Jonathon C. (1823 - 1907)

(24 SEP 1823 - 13 JUN 1907) Jonathon Clark Head was born in Madison Co., N.Y., Sept 24, 1823. He finished his education at Hamilton University, after which he studied law, and at the age of 22 was admitted to the bar. Four years later he was united in marriage to Calista Ann Watson. Some years later he moved to Iowa, where he continued to practice law and filled several offices of public trust, but suffering from fever and ague he found it advisable to move to Wisconsin in 1868; for a few years he was engaged in the lumber business and in 1874 moved to Black River Falls. In 1898 they lost their home to fire, since which time he has lived with his daughters, his wife passing away in 1900. Mr. Head was stricken while in this village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) last Thursday and passed peacefully away at 6:30 Sunday evening. The funeral service was held at the home of his daughter in alma Center Tuesday morning and the interment was in the cemetery at Black River Falls. His was a pure and upright life, social and kindly in his disposition. He found great pleasure in literary reading and spent many otherwise lonely hours in writing poems, with which many are familiar. Mr. Head leaves to mourn his death, one son, H. D., of this place, and two daughters, Mrs. Florence A. Brinkman of Alma Center, and Mrs. Mary L. Hostrauser of Black River Falls, besides a brother, a number of grand and great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. |
