Last Sunday morning at ten minutes to five, Frank Benish, and old settler in the town of Cleveland, Jackson Co., Wis., departed this life, after weeks of intense suffering. About two years ago his health began to show signs of a breakdown, and last summer he went to the hospital at Rochester for an operation. This afforded but temporary relief, and gradually growing weaker, he took to his bed two months ago, being a patient sufferer until death relieved him. The remains were taken to Eau Claire Wednesday morning, where funeral services were held in the German Catholic Church and the interment was in the German Catholic Cemetery in that city.

Mr. Benish was in his fifty-ninth years. He was born in Desterbach, Bohemia, in 1849, and came to America when twenty years of age, in 1869, and located at Watertown, Wis., where he remained a couple of years. In 1871 he came to Humbird, Clark County, Wis. and worked at the building of the old grist mill, and the same year bought the farm adjoining the one on which he later made his home. Mr. Benish, while at Watertown, made the acquaintance of Miss Tracia Lungar, also a native of Bohemia. After making a home on the unimproved farm in the town of Cleveland, he returned to Watertown in 1875 and was united in marriage with Miss Lungar. To this union were born eight children, five daughters: Addie of Odena; Mrs. Alma Seigar of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Mary Babler of Strip Texas; Helen and Tillie, and three sons: Frank, John and Joseph, all of whom, with their mother, are mourning the death of the husband and father. Mrs. Benish is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.

The deceased was an industrious farmer, who by hard work and judicious management, and with the assistance of his wife and family, has developed one of the finest farms in the town of Cleveland. He was a neighbor who was always well spoken of, was upright and honorable in all his dealing, and leaves many friends who deeply regret his death.
